Windham LINK attended the Citizens Facilities Committee Meeting on March 23, 2015. The Committee met to discuss was has become known as “Option 2”, a plan that calls for an addition to Golden Brook School that would house grades Pre-K through grade 4. Option 2 would make Golden Brook School one of the largest elementary schools in the state, with a total of 1,000 students.
The recent Citizens Petition to vote on Option 2 and put forth on the March ballot was done without the full consensus of the Committee. The Committee hopes to present its complete plan to the School Board for final approval in April.
The Citizens Facilities Committee, along with several community members who attended the meeting, listed several areas that the proposed Option 2 needs to address, including:
The need to relocate the Golden Brook School student population during construction.
Members of the Committee commented that they are aware they have not addressed site issues such as:
The need for adequate indoor and outdoor space for 1,000 children are not addressed in Option 2.
